What's the importance of water for my body? In the human body, the percentage of water contained in it can range anywhere from 45% - 79% depending on age and other varying conditions. Anyway you look at it, it's a large percentage. The brain is composed of 70% water and the lungs are nearly 90% water! Water transports and distributes carbohydrates and proteins through our system. It transports the waste out of our bodies. The body uses water in one of four ways to eliminate toxins:
Water is the most important element you can put into your body. Without it, the body dies. Plain and simple. None of your organs would function properly without water and you couldn't survive. Most of the foods we eat contain water, so what you eat also contributes to your daily intake.
The BEST water is HERE!
So how much is necessary? As with all things body-related, there is no exact amount or formula to go by. The "rule" is 8 - 8 ounce glasses per day (for larger bodies, say for instance, a 250lb man, that could increase to up to 13 glasses/day). 64 ounces is a very good amount (that equals 1/2 gallon). This flushes your system, regenerates cells, lubricates joints, and replenishes loss. Using the 8 glasses per day rule ensures that body is getting at least the minimum requirement. Added with a balanced diet of fruits and vegetables, you should be well hydrated.

Why so much? The body loses 10-15 cups of water a day through elimination, breathing and sweating. This MUST be replenished or dehydration begins and that's why you become thirsty. Severe dehydration can lead to death.

Can I mix the water with something like juice mix, or what about coffee? According to the Mayo Clinic's reports, liquid in any form can be counted towards your daily requirement. HOWEVER, adding mixes such as juices, or powders, adds sugars, which add calories to your diet. Sugars do nothing good for the body. Water in its purest, natural form is by far the best. As far as coffee and tea is concerned, the caffeine content of these beverages (as well as most sodas) actually REMOVES water from your body. So if you must have a cup of these beverages, add another cup of plain water to your daily intake to compensate for the loss - or avoid it all together and you won't need the added step. If water doesn't "do it" for you, try this little trick. Spend about $5.00 and invest into one of the new insulated, BPA Free drinking cups. Find one with a clever saying, or maybe one with your favorite sports team logo. Fill it with lots of ice and water. Keep it at your desk or wherever you tend to relax.
